NOTES

Middle Keys Fishing Report | Marathon & Islamorada, FL

Florida Keys - Monroe, FL

With favorable water conditions and steady breezes across the Middle Keys, the fishing around Marathon and Islamorada has been firing on all cylinders. From the shallow flats and bridge spans to the deep wrecks and offshore drop-offs, target species are actively feeding, giving anglers using diverse techniques plenty of tight lines.

Inshore & Bridge Fishing: Snapper, Tarpon, and Night Shore Action The shore and bridge fishing scene around Marathon has been exceptionally productive, especially during low-light hours and shifting tides.

Snapper: Yellowtail and mangrove snapper are heavily schooled up around local structure and bridge pilings. Chumming steadily while drifting live shrimp or small cut baits on finesse terminal tackle is yielding consistent coolers.

Tarpon & Jacks: Evening and nighttime tide changes around the local channels have seen solid tarpon activity. Drifting live mullet or crabs through deep current seams on the outgoing tide has triggered aggressive bites.

Shore & Wading Tip: Target the moving water around the flats and bridge edges during early morning hours for sea trout, barracuda, and mangrove snapper on light spinning gear.

Reef & Wreck: Grouper, Muttons, and High-Energy Rod Bends The patch reefs and deeper wreck sites off Marathon are delivering excellent bottom-fishing variety.

Mutton Snapper & Yellowtail: Deep reef edges in 60 to 90 feet are holding quality mutton snapper. Long fluorocarbon leaders fished with live ballyhoo or pinfish on the bottom have been key to fooling the larger fish. Flag yellowtails are taking free-lined baits dropped back smoothly into the chum line.

Grouper & Cobia: Structural wrecks are holding keeper grouper alongside roaming cobia. Dropping live baits or working slow-pitch jigs close to the structure is producing fast, hard-hitting strikes.
